Fast & Furious Franchise’s Endgame Gets Update From Vin Diesel As He Teases Return Of Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs: “A Reunion Of That Beautiful Brotherhood” (2025)

star Vin Diesel shares an update on the franchise's plan for an endgame, including how many more movies there will be and Dwayne Johnson's return as Luke Hobbs. After the first installment back in 2001, Diesel returned as Dom Toretto last year for Fast X, the tenth installment in the Fast Saga. Fast X: Part 2 is now confirmed to be on the way (and is seemingly in production) and a Hobbs spinoff movie was announced last year, but it remains unclear just how many more movies there will actually be in the franchise.

Diesel now takes to Instagram to share a new update on the plans for the end of the Fast & Furious franchise, revealing, essentially, that it may not yet be set in stone. According to the star and producer, there's continued interest from Comcast in there being a Fast & Furious 12, in addition to the planned Fast X: Part 2.

On top of hinting that Fast X: Part 2 could be targeting a March 2026 release date, Diesel reveals that he and franchise writer Chris Morgan are interested in a Dom and Hobbs reunion on screen, an update that accompanies an image of the two characters during the filming of Fast Five (2011). To cap off his post, Diesel voices his interest in getting back to more grounded action sequences and "real street racing." Check out Diesel's post below:

"I got universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026," writes Diesel in his caption. "I have Concast [sic] in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood."

Fast X: Part 2 has been positioned as the franchise's finale, but Diesel did tease around the release of Fast X last year that it could be a three-part finale instead of a two-part one. One of the reasons why it may not be confirmed yet, one way or the other, is because Fast X reviews and box office performance were underwhelming. The film, which was made on a massive reported budget of $340 million, grossed about $705 million worldwide, which means it wasn't more than a modest success commercially.

A throwaway gag from Fast X could have laid the groundwork for Dom and Letty's ending in the series (and how the franchise could return.)

If Fast X: Part 2 and a twelfth installment can be made at lower budget levels, there's a good chance they can be profitable, which could explain why Comcast is pushing for two more movies instead of just one. With also in the works, there could end up being three more movies in the franchise. A recent comment from Morgan regarding the Hobbs spinoff painted an uncertain picture of the film and its status, and, taken with Diesel's post, it looks like there's still a lot being decided about Fast & Furious' future.

After sitting out F9: The Fast Saga (2021) and seemingly departing the franchise following a public feud with Diesel, Johnson returned as Hobbs for the Fast X post-credits scene.

What's more, Diesel recently revealed on Instagram that filming for Fast X: Part 2 is now underway. His latest update about the franchise's future and how many more movies are coming could suggest that the upcoming movie is currently filming without a completed script, which could be worrying.

After the ridiculous action sequences in Fast X and F9: The Fast Saga, it's reassuring that Diesel wants to return to more grounded street racing. Despite this positive direction, making three more Fast & Furious movies sounds like too many. The franchise has felt like it's running out of gas in recent installments, suggesting it might be best to make a Hobbs spinoff and then end things on high note with Fast X: Part 2.
